Sneakingly, creepingly, some think annoyingly, twosleepy comes in to fix up the mess made of a Spanish word, guess that you never heard; "frijole" does not ex- ist; it's "frijol" no less! Spanglishly, manglishly statesians mess

The word "unconscious" seems to be used more frequently in the stead of "subconscious" which really bugs me. I hear it used this way by public speakers, such as politicians and news reporters. To me unconscious means comatose an

After having read "The Great Train Robbery", I was delighted that seeing it was so much like reading it. Very few movies have that success in my eyes, "To Kill A Mockingbird" being one that also stands out. Of course, having S

I like the way the OED (Online Etymology Dictionary!) simplifies things [NB: not a recommendation]: "dull and heavy," 1848, Amer.Eng., perhaps from Du. log "heavy, dull." W3 adds, 'akin to Middle Low German luggich lazy, sleepy'

He did say "perhaps." AHD agrees with him, adding that it may be a variant of loggy. The y would have been added in English, so its lack in the Dutch is no argument against this proposed etymology

log (n.) 1398, of unknown origin. O.N. had lag "felled tree" (from stem of liggja "to lie"), but on phonological grounds etymologists deny that this is the root of Eng. log. Instead, they suggest an independent formation meant to
